Velcro USA Inc. Enables Hellas Construction's Removable Turf System for Dallas Cowboys' New Stadium

When the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys opened their 2009 season in the new billion-dollar Cowboys Stadium complex, part of the rollout was a versatile new “roll-up” turf system featuring VELCRO® Construction Fastening Systems technology developed by Velcro USA Inc. The SoftTop™ removable turf system exclusively from Hellas Construction incorporates VELCRO® Brand Hook and Loop fasteners to secure the seams of the removable turf.

The system’s removable nature, facilitated by its VELCRO® Brand fastening system, is vital because of Cowboys Stadium’s multi-use design. The system’s flexibility and versatility allows for the quick conversion of three separate fields at the stadium, including professional football, high school/college football, and soccer. Thanks to the Velcro USA-assisted technology, Cowboys Stadium is the only facility in the United States to offer three interchangeable fields in one stadium.

Velcro USA Construction Division Manager Blaire Townsend says that Cowboys Stadium is the first athletic complex to feature this multi-field capability, but it won’t be the last. “This is the future of stadium design, and Velcro USA Inc. is proud to be an integral part of it,” says Townsend. “ This technology allows ground crews to efficiently install a playing surface and bring it right back up, again and again.” In 2011, Super Bowl XLV will be played at Cowboys Stadium on SoftTop™ turf held in place by VELCRO® fastening system technology.
